WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
After the release of Issue #2 of Holmgang, April 2011, the following issues were quietly cancelled due to private reasons.Â
As of November 2020, the conclusion is still a mystery.
What we do know is that his name is Ragnar, and on top of being Duncan’s half-brother, is also half-kaiju.
So... now what?
While I don’t know Phil Hester (Writer)’s plans for Holmgang, I want to provide the story of Firebreather with a fresh take that further expands the lore and cast.
DUNCAN ROSENBLATT
Duncan is an awkward 16-year-old boy with the weight of the world on his shoulders. His father (now deceased) was King of the Kaiju. His mother is an ordinary soccer mom.
Due to constant rejection, he can be grumpy and cynical, but underneath he is a genuinely sweet and gentle boy trying to live a normal life.

BAI QIUJU / GENEVIEVE
Bai Qiuju is the sheltered princess of Cangyan mountain, who has little to no knowledge of the outside world. She has come to America to negotiate with the U.N against mining in her home.
With the odds stacked against her, ‘Eve’ takes solace in learning more about human culture...despite her distrust of them.

A Family Heirloom...
Bai Ju’s father was from a long line of Kaiju-Hunters, who used the cursed blue fire of the strange weapon to burn their prey alive no matter how thick its hide. However, they themselves, were often consumed by the unnatural blue flame in the end.Â
Anyone not of the bloodline who tries to handle this weapon will instantly suffer by immolation.
BAI SUZHEN
Fireflyer
Bai Suzhen is Bai Qiuju's aloof mother and Queen of Cangyan mountain. Once an ally of Belloc's, she has hidden herself away due to the rapid advancement of humans.Â
Bai Suzhen is based off the Legend of the White Snake, a Ming Dynasty Chinese folktale.
AMANDA SAMSON
Antagonist
Chief Samson is in charge of Project Glow, which deals with the dislocation of the Cangyan Kaiju and the following mining operation for KaiCrystal.Â
She believes the benefits to humanity outweigh the cost of going against Kaiju wishes.
BACKLASH
A crashlanded alien robot is discovered by American forces. Operated by Chief Samson, the alien tech is reused for a new weapon prototype against Kaiju.Â
Problem is, the tech’s got a mind of its own…
THE STORY
Firebreather: Rekindled will be a 5 issue volume aimed at 13+ audiences. There may be some minor language and darker themes, but the overall story deals with loss, family drama, and the pressures of change a teenager experiences no matter their background. Duncan and Qiuju have lived opposite lives on opposite sides of the world, but form a bond through their similar situations of duty vs finding their own purposes. Change is scary, and intimidating, but it should be valued and fought for. Things do get better.
